In 1971, Farrar, Straus and Giroux published a new collection of The Complete Stories by Flannery O'Connor, which went on to win the National Book Award in 1972. She dealt with indignities ranging from having to accept a job for no pay after she graduated from law school to the lack of a womens restroom at the Supreme Court when she was first confirmed in doing so, paving the way for the women who followed.
